India has been a growing market for companies worldwide in the IT and the BPO sectors in the recent years. This means there are more and more networking and data centers in India being set up. Now all the large companies need facilities to run their servers out of, and control all their telecommunication. These data centers perform this role.

The main complaint that our government has thrown up to the construction of data centers is that they cause a lot of noise and air pollution due to diesel exhaust. Thus, with the rise of cloud computing, the specifications and restrictions on these data centers in India have been made more stringent.
The main application of a data center is the running of certain applications that handle the operations and business side of the organization. The equipment for running a data center may be developed internally by the company or bought from enterprise software merchants. Other than this, they have to take care of direct access and maintenance of the various dedicated servers running either by the company for their clients or for their internal purposes.

Major companies like Tata, Infosys, HCL, and CTS have their own data centers across the country, some even opting for multiple data centers. There are other companies who provide data center solutions either exclusively or in a joint venture for middle and small companies, like NetMagic or ESDS, Fortify and Go4hosting. These provide full out data center facilities or solutions for specific problems relating to data centers.
